A Message from Father Augustine Chang

In 1923, our first group of parishioners gathered together to celebrate Mass in a small house on South Norton Street. Eventually, this group would expand to become instrumental in constructing our beautiful church of St. Gregory Nazianzen.

By the grace of God, our parish has continued to grow in a multitude of ways, from our initial humble beginnings into the vibrant community we know today. Within this parish community, we have created an environment to nurture our faith, overcome our challenges, and share in the love of Jesus Christ with one another.

As a former student of Religious Education who has received the first Sacrament of Holy Communion here, St. Gregory Nazianzen holds a special place in my heart, as I’m positively certain that it does for you as well.

With this in mind, the needs of our parish community continue to grow, develop, and evolve. In order to help meet those needs, we begin the ambitiously historic Called to Renew campaign, along with every parish in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

Every parish has been given a specific goal for this important campaign. Our own goal for this campaign is $435,000, of which 50 percent will specifically remain for the needs of our own parish. Any funds we collect over our goal will also be retained 100 percent by St. Gregory Nazianzen.

All of us have probably experienced God’s generosity and kindness in our lives. I now ask you to please take a moment to prayerfully discern how we can also share and participate in that same generosity. By supporting this campaign and extending the same kindness of Christ to others, we can continue to make our parish an inviting spiritual home for all.
