Our community is excited to participate alongside all parishes, missions and Catholic centers in the Archdiocese to strengthen and renew our Church for the future. Please continue reading to learn how this campaign will benefit us.
It is with immense joy and heartfelt gratitude that I announce the launch of Called to Renew at St. Mel. This campaign will provide funding for the development and enhancement of our church, school, and preschool. The campaign will also include much funding for parishes in need throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, as well as strengthen ministries and programs that the Archdiocese offers for us all.
Each parish has been given a specific goal calculated on our yearly tithing/giving. Our goal is $1.42 million of which 50% will remain with us at St. Mel to be used for the building and projects we will deem most important for our three campuses. We will also retain 100% of any funding that is raised and collected over our goal. If our campaign is successful, we will receive a minimum of $710,000 to address our own needs.
St. Mel has a strong history in Woodland Hills. Called to Renew will ensure we can continue to be a vital presence in our community. Details about how we plan to use our share of the campaign funds are included on the following page.
Please take a moment to prayerfully discern how you can most generously support this campaign. I also encourage you to consider making a five-year pledge, which will allow us the best opportunity to reach our goal. This is a wonderful parish, and I am constantly amazed and grateful at how our community has always worked together to meet needs that arise. I know you will do whatever you can to make this campaign a success.
We entrust the success of our Called to Renew campaign to the intercessions of our Blessed Mother and our parish patron, St. Mel. Thank you in advance for your faithful support.
Pledged over 5 years for the Called to Renew Campaign.

Parish Needs
Spirituality Center
Our Sisters of St. Louis no longer live in the convent at St. Mel. We would like to improve our existing property including the beautiful chapel. Our plans include enhancing the garden and making modifications to the interior structure. We believe this property could be used as a spirituality center throughout the year as well as a new gathering space for hospitality after Mass.
Media & Sound Upgrade
During Mass, we celebrate the Liturgy of the Word, and the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Sometimes it is difficult to hear & view parts of the Mass due to the inferior quality of our system. We will install a new sound system & media screen to improve the quality during Mass.
Lawn Outside of O’Connor Center Upgrade
To create a more park-like and inviting environment for our many outdoor parish, school, and preschool activities, we would like to install permanent shade structures across the lawn and provide additional hardscape and landscape in the area.
Preschool
We strive to provide life-long learning opportunities for our families. That begins with the earliest of ages. We would like to provide the preschool with current technology in the classrooms. We believe providing them with up-to-date interactive boards to enhance their learning potential is fundamental to their growth & development. Additionally, we would like to refurbish and remodel the classroom storage spaces.
Project for Parish School
The school is an important part of our parish community. Perhaps you have children who have attended, or currently attend our school. Maybe you are an alumnus. Studies show that students who attend Catholic schools are more likely to remain Catholic as adults. We want to support our school by refurbishing and remodeling 24 classroom and six bathroom spaces, upgrading technology integration in the classrooms, and renovating/extending the athletic field at the back of campus to include additional square footage, AstroTurf, and spectator seating.
A Bold Plan of Renewal
We — the Catholic faithful — are the agents of renewal for Church and society. I am grateful for this opportunity to walk alongside clergy and parishioners in strengthening our parishes and ministries, the heart of our Archdiocese.
