Our community is excited to participate alongside all parishes, missions and Catholic centers in the Archdiocese to strengthen and renew our Church for the future. Please continue reading to learn how this campaign will benefit us.
In 2016, when the Marian Missionaries of the Holy Cross were entrusted with the beautiful parish of St. John of God, I laid down five guiding principles of administration. In particular, two were: “We will be better stewards of the resources of the parish” and “The work of one pastor is built on the shoulders of the pastors who came before him.”
I continue to recognize the great contributions of past pastors, especially in leading and rallying the faithful to build the facilities we enjoy. With most of these facilities more than 50 years old, it is now our turn to ensure those who will come after us will have these facilities to proudly take ownership of and enjoy.
We have already made great efforts in being better stewards of our parish resources. In only two and a half years, we have repaired the leaking gas pipes, built our beautiful adoration chapel, repainted the interior and exterior of the church and other buildings, and replaced the roof and corridor ceiling of the school building. We have also made our church and school campus more secure with the installation of gates and more than 50 closed-circuit television cameras, and have modernized the phone system to service the offices and school classrooms. We have beautified our landscaping with new shrines, and have evangelized in and outside of the parish through new social justice programs.
We have been able to accomplish so much because we have all worked together. Still, many more projects need to be initiated and completed. This is why we are blessed to be part of Called to Renew.
All parishes in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles are also embarking on this great effort to build and rebuild their facilities and parish programs. We proudly recognize that we are the Church, and therefore part of the ongoing rebuilding of the Church. I invite you to make a commitment to support this great mission of rebuilding our Church.
Pledged over 5 years for the Called to Renew Campaign.
Our Parish Receives
$545,000
To renew our parish and strengthen ministries.
Parish Needs
Air Conditioning and Heating
Our heating and air conditioning system no longer efficiently moderate the temperature in the church during the warmest and coldest months of the year.Installing a new HVAC system will make our worship experience more comfortable.
School Classrooms
Our school is one of our parish’s most important ministries. Studies show that Catholic school students are more likely to be active in the faith as adults. Repairing and repainting classrooms will provide our students with a welcoming and modern learning environment.
Convent Building
Our convent no longer serves its original purpose in our community. Reimagining and renovating this space into a permanent pastor residency will support our pastoral leadership for years to come.
Parking Lot
Our parking lot provides a poor first impression of our campus. We will use these campaign funds as seed money toward a complete remodel of our parking lot, including moving the metal fence and gates, the addition of a drainage system, and resurfacing.
A Bold Plan of Renewal
We — the Catholic faithful — are the agents of renewal for Church and society. I am grateful for this opportunity to walk alongside clergy and parishioners in strengthening our parishes and ministries, the heart of our Archdiocese.
