Our community is excited to participate alongside all parishes, missions and Catholic centers in the Archdiocese to strengthen and renew our Church for the future. Please continue reading to learn how this campaign will benefit us.
It is with immense joy that I write this letter to announce the beginning of our parish’s Called to Renew campaign in conjunction with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. This campaign will provide necessary funds for parishes throughout the Archdiocese and will benefit St. Emydius.
Each parish has received a goal for the campaign. Our goal is $1,300,000. Fifty percent of the funds we raise are for St. Emydius, and 100 percent of the funds over the goal will remain at our parish as well. This means that we can receive $650,000 to address our own needs. On the next page, you will find more information about our plans for these funds.
St. Emydius has a great tradition of service in the city of Lynwood and our neighboring communities. Called to Renew will allow us to continue our presence within the community.
As your pastor, I invite you to take a moment to pray and discern how you can support this important campaign for our community. I invite you to consider a promise payable within five years. Your promise gives us the best opportunity to achieve our goal and serve you in a better way. This parish is a wonderful community of faith, and I assure you that I am very fortunate to be your pastor. I am confident that, together, we will do everything possible to meet our goal.
To ensure the success of this campaign, we ask for the intercessions of our Blessed Mother and our patron, St. Emydius.
Pledged over 5 years for the Called to Renew Campaign.

Parish Needs
Church
The church roof has exceeded its life expectancy and often leaks during the rainy season. Repairing or replacing the roof will prevent future damage to the interior of the church. We will also replace the thermostat for the air conditioning system, which is malfunctioning.
Solar Panels
Pope Francis has called on us “to care for the earth so that it may continue, as God willed, to be a source of life for the entire human family.” Installing solar panels on top of a section of our parking lot will provide shade as well as reduce electrical costs and our impact on the environment.
School
St. Emydius School is an important ministry of our parish but the building is in great need of repair, from the restrooms to the roof. Completely renovating the restrooms, including installing new fixtures, will make them accessible for both children and adults, and either repairing or replacing the roof will ensure the classrooms remain dry during the rainy season. Upgrading the windows, painting the interior, and adding a new computer lab will elevate our school for years to come.
A Bold Plan of Renewal
We — the Catholic faithful — are the agents of renewal for Church and society. I am grateful for this opportunity to walk alongside clergy and parishioners in strengthening our parishes and ministries, the heart of our Archdiocese.
