Our community is excited to participate alongside all parishes, missions and Catholic centers in the Archdiocese to strengthen and renew our Church for the future. Please continue reading to learn how this campaign will benefit us.
We are so blessed at St. Denis Parish. We have a beautiful parish, including many active and faith-filled parishioners who generously share their time, talent, and other gifts.
Thanks be to God for all of our blessings, and for all of the people who preceded us and who helped make St. Denis what it is today.
We have greatly benefitted from the generosity of our predecessors; and now we are called to renew our Church to ensure that future generations can worship and encounter Christ.Specifically, Archbishop José Gomez has launched the Called to Renew campaign to provide much-needed funding for parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, including ours.
Each parish has been given a campaign goal. Our goal is $1,735,000, of which 50% ($867,500) will remain at St. Denis Parish to address the parish’s needs, which are described on the following page.We also will retain 100% of the funds that we collect over our goal.
While our goal is above and beyond what we normally raise for St. Denis Parish, our community is worthy of this incredible investment.Future generations will see this dedication to our parish’s legacy as an example to follow.
Therefore, I am asking you, and every member of our parish, to make a gift from the heart. In particular, please consider making a five-year pledge, which will allow us the best opportunity to reach our goal.
We have a wonderful parish; and I am amazed at how our community has always worked together to meet the needs that arise.I know that you will do whatever you can to make this campaign a success.
Pledged over 5 years for the Called to Renew Campaign.

Parish Needs
Church
It is time for us to restore some of the beauty and luster to our church with new flooring, painting, and lighting. With Called to Renew funds, we will renovate the men’s and women’s restrooms in the vestibule and replace the carpeting throughout the church with flooring that is more durable and easier to maintain, and, if necessary, install additional acoustic panels on the walls. We also will paint the interior walls, ceilings, and interior doors of the church. In addition, we will repaint the exterior of the church, and refinish and repair the exterior doors, including repairing the large wooden doors that are cracking. The marble tiles throughout the church will be thoroughly cleaned and polished. The broken marble tiles will be replaced or repaired, the grouting cleaned, and, where necessary, replaced. Lastly, we will repair the kneelers and modernize the HVAC system to be more energy efficient.
Outdoor Areas
The retaining walls, which are deteriorating and have unsightly bulges, will be repaired. We also will enhance the landscaping – e.g., by replacing the greenery on the hillsides with drought-resistant plants and by installing a new drought-friendly irrigation system. Lastly, we will create an outdoor play area for kids and an outdoor hang-out space for teens.
Pastoral Office Building
The receptionists’ office will be renovated; and the Pastoral Office’s second-floor wooden overhang will be refinished and repaired.
Potthoff Hall
We will replace the HVAC system with a modern, energy-efficient system and replace the leaky roof.
Courtyard
We will provide outdoor seating areas with tables and shade. The lighting and sound system will be upgraded so that people can regularly gather in the courtyard for fellowship. We also will replace the rotted trellises around the courtyard and create a mobile “St. Denis Café” where we can sell hot and cold foods.
A Bold Plan of Renewal
We — the Catholic faithful — are the agents of renewal for Church and society. I am grateful for this opportunity to walk alongside clergy and parishioners in strengthening our parishes and ministries, the heart of our Archdiocese.
