Our community is excited to participate alongside all parishes, missions and Catholic centers in the Archdiocese to strengthen and renew our Church for the future. Please continue reading to learn how this campaign will benefit us.
These are exciting times for the Church in Southern California! Archbishop Gomez has called us all to a period of renewal — a renewal of not only our resources but also a spiritual renewal. I am pleased to announce the launch of our parish’s Called to Renew campaign. This historic effort will provide much-needed funding for parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, including ours, and strengthen essential ministries and programs that affect us all.
Each parish in the archdiocese has been given a specific goal for the campaign. Our goal is $175,000, of which 50% will remain at our parish, and we will also retain 100% of the funds we collect over our goal. If our campaign is successful, we will receive a minimum of $87,500 to address our own needs.
While our goal is above and beyond what we usually raise for St. Catherine of Alexandria, our community is worthy of this extraordinary investment. Current and future generations will see our dedication to our parish’s legacy as an example of wise and prudent Christian stewardship.
St. Catherine of Alexandria has a rich history in Avalon; after all, Catalina Island was named after our parish’s patron saint. Called to Renew will ensure we will continue to be vital in our community. Details about how we plan to use our share of campaign funds are on the following page.
Please take a moment to prayerfully discern how you can most generously support this once-in-a-generation campaign. I would also encourage you to consider making a five-year pledge, allowing us the most practical opportunity to reach our goal. This is a beautiful parish, and we want to maintain and improve it for ourselves and the next generation of Catholics who will worship here because of our generosity. I know you will do whatever you can to make this campaign a success.
We entrust this campaign to the intercessions of our Blessed Mother and our patron, St. Catherine of Alexandria.
Thank you, and may God bless you and your dear ones for your faithful support.
Pledged over 5 years for the Called to Renew Campaign.

Parish Needs
Enhance Church Lighting
The lighting system in our church needs to be upgraded to current standards. We want to use more environmentally friendly, efficient, and brighter lighting fixtures to highlight the beauty of our church. Funds received above our parish campaign goal, will be used to enhance the lighting in the church.
Improve Sound System
During Mass, we celebrate the Liturgy of the Word and the Eucharist. Sometimes, it is difficult to hear parts of the Mass due to the inferior quality of our sound system. We will use the funds we receive to upgrade our sound system with new wiring, speakers, and microphones.
Increase Ventilation
The fans inside the church are aging and often do not provide sufficient air circulation making the environment uncomfortable. A portion of funds contributed to Called to Renew will be allocated to purchase and install modern fans that will increase air circulation throughout the Church.
Raise the Visibility of the Church
The current visibility of our church is lacking due to poor exterior lighting and signage. Using a portion of Called to Renew funds, we will enhance the visibility of our church in our community by increasing outdoor lighting, enhancing exterior decorations, and installing informative signage, among other enhancements. Additionally, we will enhance the interior and exterior of our church with sacred images of our Catholic Faith. We hope to attract travelers visiting our beautiful island to visit our Parish as well.
A Bold Plan of Renewal
We — the Catholic faithful — are the agents of renewal for Church and society. I am grateful for this opportunity to walk alongside clergy and parishioners in strengthening our parishes and ministries, the heart of our Archdiocese.
