Our community is excited to participate alongside all parishes, missions and Catholic centers in the Archdiocese to strengthen and renew our Church for the future. Please continue reading to learn how this campaign will benefit us.
This year, our parish is proud to celebrate its 95th year of service to the people of Boyle Heights! On December 12, 1923, Archbishop Cantwell established Resurrection, and since then we have continued to bless, sanctify, and educate our community.
Last year was a historic year for us. A young man attempted to destroy our church as well as several other churches. He only succeeded in bringing us together as never before to defend and support this beloved parish.
Your generosity last year was simply outstanding. You made a great effort to see our church restored, and it is even more beautiful than before, thanks to your support.
I am writing today to again ask for your support as we enter an important chapter in meeting the needs of our parish and of our Archdiocese.
For the first time in the history of the Archdiocese, we are initiating a capital campaign. Through Called to Renew, we will seek to raise $500 million. The Archdiocese will use these funds to support four future priorities of the Church: strengthening and maintaining our parishes, serving the most vulnerable, investing in faith formation, and supporting priestly vocations.
Each parish has been given a goal to meet over a five-year period. The goal for our parish is $395,000. Fifty percent of this goal will remain in our parish, along with 100 percent of whatever we raise over our goal. After consulting with various members of the parish council and our parish finance council, I have decided to prioritize four projects for our parish. You can read about these on the following page.
For 95 years, our parish has served the spiritual needs of our people. I ask you to consider how you can help us continue serving those needs in a just way. Please prayerfully consider pledging your gift over a five-year period.
Pledged over 5 years for the Called to Renew Campaign.

Parish Needs
Air Conditioning for the Church and Parish
When our church was built, indoor heating and cooling was uncommon. Installing a new HVAC system in our church and refurbishing the outdated system in the parish hall will make our worship and community gatherings more comfortable.
Parking Lot Asphalt
Our parking lot provides a poor first impression of our campus. Replacing the original asphalt will ensure the safety of our families and children as well as enhance our many outdoor community events.
Hall, Kitchen & Annex
Restoring our hall’s luster with new hardware, doors, and other finishes will provide a more welcoming gathering space for visitors and parishioners.
Wheelchair Ramps
The liturgy is the source and summit of our faith, and all of our parishioners should have accessibility to the Lord’s table. Installing two new wheelchair ramps at the church and the rectory will ensure our parish is accommodating to all of Christ’s followers.
A Bold Plan of Renewal
We — the Catholic faithful — are the agents of renewal for Church and society. I am grateful for this opportunity to walk alongside clergy and parishioners in strengthening our parishes and ministries, the heart of our Archdiocese.
