Our community is excited to participate alongside all parishes, missions and Catholic centers in the Archdiocese to strengthen and renew our Church for the future. Please continue reading to learn how this campaign will benefit us.
As we celebrate the 100th anniversary of St. Philip the Apostle’s founding, we are reminded that when a handful of families sacrificed to establish our parish, they also blessed us with a legacy to build upon and celebrate.
Through God’s grace, we have grown from a small faith community into a welcoming parish of more than 1,300 families with a thriving school family of over 500 students. We have created a vibrant, active, and dynamic place for people of all ages to grow in their faith, serve others, and share the Good News as they connect with Christ, one another, and those in need.
We are now launching our Called to Renew campaign alongside every parish in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and ask God to bless this ambitious effort. Our campaign will allow us to continue to build our ministries and faith formation programs while ensuring future generations of parishioners may continue to gather, worship, and create lasting friendships.
Our goal for the campaign is $4 million from which 81% will remain with our parish. These funds will launch our parish into the next centennial by fully funding all the projects detailed on the following page. The remaining 19% will go towards fulfilling our commitment to helping the Archdiocese address deferred maintenance needs of parishes as well as efforts to serve the vulnerable, support vocations, and invest in the faith of future generations.
I am asking you, and every member of our parish, to make a gift from the heart. As your pastor and fellow parishioner, I will also make a sacrificial pledge. Before you determine your pledge, please prayerfully consider the generosity God has shown you, the sacrifices of families before you, and the importance of the mission we have been given at St Philip the Apostle.
Pledged over 5 years for the Called to Renew Campaign.

Parish Needs
Enhancing the Church
We will improve our worship experience by bringing our pews and kneelers into the 21st century, along with the vinyl tiles underneath the pews. We will also look to overhaul our sound system and the HVAC system to better heat and cool the church.
Restore the Tabernacle
Returning the Tabernacle to its original position behind the altar will refocus our attention on the Eucharist as the center of our faith. The Tabernacle will be moved from its current location to a prominent and central position on the altar with a specific nod to the cost considerations raised by parishioners.
Renew and Refresh our School
We consider the school to be new, but our last major building investment was 15 years ago. The linoleum flooring, repaving the parking lot, and painting the interior of the school are past due. We will also find a better storage solution to the container units in the parking lot.
Create a welcoming entrance for our Newman Center
A welcoming entrance on Hill Avenue with engaging indoor and outdoor space will help our efforts to reconnect our young adults to their faith and help our evangelization and outreach efforts. We have scaled back the initial scope to focus on exterior curb appeal
Renovate the Parish Ministry Building Interior
The Newman Center transformation shows that we can modify our existing buildings to breathe new life into tired spaces. We will focus on the second story with a goal of creating flexible, modern, multi-use meeting space to meet the growing needs of various parish ministries today and into the future.
A Bold Plan of Renewal
We — the Catholic faithful — are the agents of renewal for Church and society. I am grateful for this opportunity to walk alongside clergy and parishioners in strengthening our parishes and ministries, the heart of our Archdiocese.
