Our community is excited to participate alongside all parishes, missions and Catholic centers in the Archdiocese to strengthen and renew our Church for the future. Please continue reading to learn how this campaign will benefit us.
As an active and faith-filled parishioner, you are aware of the many blessings we have to be grateful for at St. John the Evangelist. Your family has likely celebrated many rites of passage here, such as Baptism and first Communion. You may have exchanged wedding vows in our church or bid farewell to a loved one in the comfort of your spiritual home. Truly, our parish plays a vital role throughout our lives. But have you ever stopped to reflect on who is responsible for all we enjoy and use today?
Just as we now benefit from the generosity of those who came before us, we, too, are “called to renew” our Church to ensure future generations can encounter Christ.
I am pleased to announce the launch of our parish’s Called to Renew campaign and invite you to consider God’s many blessings in your life, our parish, and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
Each parish has been given a goal for the campaign. Our goal is $270,000, of which 50 percent will remain at our parish. We will also retain 100 percent of the funds we collect over our goal. In other words, if our campaign is successful, we will receive a minimum of $130,000 to address our own needs.
Please take a moment to read on the following page how Called to Renew will benefit St. John the Evangelist, and how we will use our share of campaign funds. I then ask you to prayerfully consider a five-year pledge to the campaign, which will allow us the best opportunity to reach our goal.
I realize this request is significant but trust your commitment to our parish, the Los Angeles community, and our Catholic faith will guide you to make a sacrificial gift. Called to Renew is essential to ensuring our Church is vibrant and healthy, and our parish remains a presence in the lives of parishioners and the community for years to come. I hope you will join me in supporting this historic campaign.
Pledged over 5 years for the Called to Renew Campaign.

Parish Needs
Restrooms
Our restrooms in the “bungalow” area were originally constructed for the school and feature fixtures too small for adult use. Renovating these restrooms and adding a hot water supply will make them more convenient and welcoming for those participating in ministries, meetings, and religious education in this area.
Church Sound System
Our sound system is outdated, with many speakers situated in the unused choir area, and parishioners often have difficulty hearing the Word of God. Enhancing our sound system will ensure all are able to participate during Mass.
Audio-Visual Systems
Our parish lacks the equipment for displaying materials visually, such as presentations and video clips, during events, Confirmation, youth gatherings, and religious education classes. Installing permanent audio-visual systems in our hall and classrooms will provide new possibilities for future engagement. We will also purchase mobile projectors for other rooms.
A Bold Plan of Renewal
We — the Catholic faithful — are the agents of renewal for Church and society. I am grateful for this opportunity to walk alongside clergy and parishioners in strengthening our parishes and ministries, the heart of our Archdiocese.
