From the Pastor

Dear Friends in Christ,

In 1921, when a handful of families sacrificed to establish St. Dominic Parish, they also blessed us with a legacy to build upon and celebrate.

Through God’s grace, we have grown from a small faith community into a welcoming parish of more than 3,000 families. We have created a vibrant, active, and dynamic place for people of all ages to grow in their faith, serve others, and share the Good News as they connect with Christ, one another, and those in need.

It is with a sense of heartfelt gratitude for all that God has done for St. Dominic’s during these last 100 years and with a desire that we do our part in keeping and passing on our faith for the next century, that I announce the launch of the Called to Renew campaign at St. Dominic’s. This campaign will provide much-needed funding for parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, including ours, as well as strengthen important ministries and programs that affect us all.

Each parish has been given a goal for the campaign. Our goal is $1,130,000.00, of which 50 percent will remain at our parish. We will also retain 100 percent of the funds we collect over our goal. If our campaign is successful, we will receive a minimum of $565,000.00 to address our own needs.

St. Dominic’s has a rich history in Eagle Rock, and Called to Renew will ensure we can continue to be a vital presence in our community. Details about how we plan to use our share of campaign funds are on the following page.

Please take a moment to discern prayerfully how you can most generously support this campaign. I also encourage you to consider making a five-year pledge, which will allow us the best opportunity to reach our goal. This is a wonderful parish, and I am amazed at how our community has always worked together to meet needs that arise. I know you will do whatever you can to make this campaign a success.

Parish Needs

Church Renovations

Since the church was last painted in the 1990’s, it is important to give the exterior a fresh coat. Additionally, the dome must be replaced to protect against leaks and damages. Finally, the church bathrooms must be made accessible and upgraded to be more inviting and functional.

Audio Upgrades

To account for the needs of our oldest parishioners, we must upgrade the stound system in the church who find it difficult to understand what is being said at Mass.

Lighting Fixtures

The current lighting in the church is not sufficient and must be improved.

Convent Upgrades

The current roof of the convent was installed in 1992. As such, it must be replaced. Similarly, because the carpeting in the convent is uneven, it serves as a hazard to the Notre Dame Sisters living there and must also be replaced.

Parish Hall Repairs

Portions of the parish hall’s roof must be replaced due to water leaks as evident on the ceiling of the lower portion. Additionally, the bathrooms in the parish hall need an upgrade to ensure accessibility, and to make them more functional and inviting.
