Our community is excited to participate alongside all parishes, missions and Catholic centers in the Archdiocese to strengthen and renew our Church for the future. Please continue reading to learn how this campaign will benefit us.
These are exciting times for the Church in Southern California! Archbishop Gomez has called us all to a period of renewal — a renewal of not only our resources, but a spiritual renewal as well. I am pleased to announce the launch of our parish’scampaign. This historic effort will provide much-needed funding for parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, including ours, as well as strengthen important ministries and programs that affect us all.
Each parish has been given a goal for the campaign. Our parish enhanced goal is $1,500,000 of which 50% up to $1,000,000 (or $500,000) will remain at our parish to address local needs. We will also retain 100 percent of the funds we collect over $1,000,000.
While our goal is above and beyond what we normally raise for St Cornelius, our community is worthy of this incredible investment. Future generations will see this dedication to our parish’s legacy as an example to follow.
St Cornelius has a rich history in Long Beach. Since 1953 when a small group of dedicated families founded the parish, it has grown to be a vibrant, welcoming, faith filled community.will ensure we can continue to be a vital presence in our community. Details about how we plan to use our share of campaign funds are on the following page.
Please take a moment to prayerfully discern how you can most generously support this campaign. I also encourage you to consider making a five-year pledge, which will allow us the best opportunity to reach our goal. This is a wonderful parish. I feel very blessed to serve as pastor and I am amazed at how our community always works together to meet needs that arise. I know you will do whatever you can to make this campaign a success.
We entrust this campaign to the intercessions of our Blessed Mother and our patron, St Cornelius.
Pledged over 5 years for the Called to Renew Campaign.

Parish Needs
Church Renovation
Beauty is an integral and essential part of our Catholic liturgy and is indeed a gift from God. Our church was built in 1968 and it is time for us to restore some of the beauty and luster to our church by installing new colored glass windows on the west and east sides, replacing the baptismal font with a new font at the entrance of the church, and repairing back wall due to falling stones.
Old Convent Renovation
Renovating the old convent into a Parish Center will house all parish offices, provide additional office and meeting space, and a youth area for fellowship and gatherings. In addition, we will add new bathrooms on the 1st floor and convert the entrance to conform with ADA requirements.
School Playground Repair
Our school playground is multi-purpose for our parish community as it also serves a parking. Our school playground needs attention, and we will use Called to Renew funds to patch, slurry coat and restripe the area. These upgrades will make this area more functional and safer for our parish and school community.
A Bold Plan of Renewal
We — the Catholic faithful — are the agents of renewal for Church and society. I am grateful for this opportunity to walk alongside clergy and parishioners in strengthening our parishes and ministries, the heart of our Archdiocese.
