Our community is excited to participate alongside all parishes, missions and Catholic centers in the Archdiocese to strengthen and renew our Church for the future. Please continue reading to learn how this campaign will benefit us.
In 1909, Sunday Masses began serving Covina and West Covina; by 1911, our first church was built; in 1927, we were established as an official parish with 50 registered families; and in 1959, we completed our current church. The founding of Sacred Heart parish began with a handful of families who embarked on a historic effort from which we all benefit today.
As we celebrate the sacrifices of our founders, we realize that it is now time for us to build upon the foundation they entrusted to us. Through God’s blessings, our small faith community has grown into a welcoming parish of 4,500 families. We have established a strong tradition of worship that makes us a vibrant, active and dynamic place for people of all ages to grow in faith, serve others and share in the Good News as we connect with Christ, one another and those in need.
I am writing to you with immense joy and heartfelt gratitude in announcing the launch of our parish capital campaign in conjunction with the Archdiocese’s Called to Renew effort. This campaign will provide much-needed funding for parishes throughout the Archdiocese. The campaign will also benefit us here at Sacred Heart.
To be successful, we are asking every parish family to make a gift from the heart; and, if I’m asking you to make this sacrifice, then I, as your pastor and fellow parishioner, will also make a sacrificial pledge. Before you decide on the amount of your gift, please prayerfully consider the generosity God has shown you, and the importance of the mission we have been given.
Pledged over 5 years for the Called to Renew Campaign.
Our Parish Receives
$1,180,000
To renew our parish and strengthen ministries.
Parish Needs
Church Renovations
We will paint the exterior of the church, remodel the confessionals
into reconciliation rooms, add a contemporary choir area and upgrade the organ.
School Renovations
We will paint the exterior of the school, replace doors and add exterior lighting, as well as relieve the school debt.
Campus Security
We will install exterior lighting and security cameras, and add new fire detection and security alarms to the church, parish center, rectory and Cavanagh Hall.
Signage
To promote campus events and services, we will install three marquee- style signs by the church, school and church parking lot entrance.
Rectory
We will paint the exterior of the rectory.
Parking Lot/Priests’ Cars
We have spent considerable funds resurfacing the parking lot and we will reseal it periodically to keep it in top condition. We will also replace two of the priests’ vehicles.
New Evangelization
The New Evangelization calls each of us to deepen our faith, grow in knowledge and proclaim the Gospel. We will invest funds in this ministry for the benefit of all parishioners.
A Bold Plan of Renewal
We — the Catholic faithful — are the agents of renewal for Church and society. I am grateful for this opportunity to walk alongside clergy and parishioners in strengthening our parishes and ministries, the heart of our Archdiocese.
