Our community is excited to participate alongside all parishes, missions and Catholic centers in the Archdiocese to strengthen and renew our Church for the future. Please continue reading to learn how this campaign will benefit us.
With 10 Japanese Catholics in attendance, the first Japanese Mass in Los Angeles was celebrated in a home chapel on Christmas Day 1912. Although they would be faced with many struggles and difficult times, our founders worked hard to build and develop the loving community of 825 families we have today. Although St. Francis Xavier Chapel is the only Japanese parish and Catholic center in the country, we are welcoming to our brothers and sisters of all ethnic groups and backgrounds while keeping our strong tradition of Japanese culture and worship.
We recognize ourselves as faithful Catholics who desire to contribute to our universal Church and local Church in dynamic, active, and vibrant ways. We show our gratefulness and love for one another by sharing the many blessings and gifts we have received from God.
I urge you to participate in Called to Renew, the campaign our parish is launching in conjunction with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. This campaign will provide much- needed funding for parishes throughout the Archdiocese, including St. Francis Xavier.
We will retain 50 percent or more of our campaign goal for needs we identify. For our fruitful success, I am earnestly asking you to make your contribution as a gift of love from your heart. Before you decide the amount of your gift, please take a moment to pray and consider God’s goodness and generosity to you, and the mission God has called you to fulfill and accomplish here on earth.
Many thanks in advance for your loving contributions to our Archdiocese and to our community.
I pray for God’s blessing with the fullness of grace, peace, and love to you and your family always.

Parish Needs
Parking Lot
After many years of use, our parking lot is in
dire need of routine maintenance. Patching
and slurring the asphalt will extend its life
and creating a more welcoming and safe
environment.
Exterior Painting
Our mission style church, with its Asian
touches, is as unique as our community
but years of wear and tear have taken
their toll on it as well as the exterior of all
of our buildings. Repainting will revitalize
these structures.
Future Maintenance Fund
Beauty is a gift from God and essential to our Catholic liturgy. Painting, replacing the
carpeting, and restoring the pews and woodwork will return our church’s luster. We will also
install new lighting, refurbish the pews, and fix broken kneelers.
A Bold Plan of Renewal
We — the Catholic faithful — are the agents of renewal for Church and society. I am grateful for this opportunity to walk alongside clergy and parishioners in strengthening our parishes and ministries, the heart of our Archdiocese.
