Our community is excited to participate alongside all parishes, missions and Catholic centers in the Archdiocese to strengthen and renew our Church for the future. Please continue reading to learn how this campaign will benefit us.
I pray this letter finds you and your family enjoying good health.
As the Gospel of Mark teaches us, “No one puts new wine into old wineskins” (Mk 2:22). In this spirit, I am excited to share that Archbishop Gomez has called us all to a period of renewal — a renewal of not only our resources, but a spiritual renewal as well. I am pleased to announce the launch of our parish’s Called to Renew campaign. This historic effort will provide much-needed funding for parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and will also directly benefit Our Lady of Sorrows with new wineskins, so to speak.
Each parish has been given a goal for the campaign. Our parish’s goal is $900,000. Of this amount, $292,500 (32 percent) will be directed to programs beyond our parish that benefit us all and $607,500 (68 percent) will remain at our parish for our local needs. You will find details about how we plan to use our campaign funds on the following page.
I invite you to take a moment to prayerfully discern how you can best support this campaign, and to reflect on the legacy our predecessors entrusted to us when they built this church, our fourth location, 90 years ago. I also encourage you to consider making a five-year pledge, which will allow us the best opportunity to reach our goal. This is a wonderful parish, and I am fortunate to be pastor of a faith community I love, and to feel loved in return by all of you. I know you will do whatever you can to make this campaign a success.
Thank you in advance for your faithful love, support, and generosity. Let us continue to set the bar high as people who respond to this call from God by Offering Love in Service to our own parochial community.
Pledged over 5 years for the Called to Renew Campaign.

Parish Needs
Church Renovations
The interior and exterior of the church have not been painted in at least 20 years. Treating our beautiful historic church to a fresh coat of paint will return Our Lady to her original glory. We will also install a new sound system to improve the worship experience of all parishioners during our liturgies.
Brewer Parish Hall Renovations
The parish hall, which is central to our ministries, is run-down. Painting the interior and exterior, remodeling the restrooms, and installing new windows, ceiling, lighting, new and refurbished flooring, and a projection screen will improve meetings and gatherings, from religious education to fundraising efforts.
Rectory Building Exterior Paint
Painting the rectory will protect the west side of the building from the direct sun, which has already damaged the wooden windowsills and other original architectural details.
A Bold Plan of Renewal
We — the Catholic faithful — are the agents of renewal for Church and society. I am grateful for this opportunity to walk alongside clergy and parishioners in strengthening our parishes and ministries, the heart of our Archdiocese.
