Our community is excited to participate alongside all parishes, missions and Catholic centers in the Archdiocese to strengthen and renew our Church for the future. Please continue reading to learn how this campaign will benefit us.
In June of 2022, Fr. Bobby began work on the Called to Renew Campaign here at the Old Mission. Some of you received a letter or a visit or phone call from Fr. Bobby. After his transfer in August, we received permission to pause the campaign so we could address financial issues at the Old Mission. It is now time to re-start our Called to Renew effort.
Called to Renew is an archdiocesan-wide initiative to help renew our parishes, our families, and our communities. Many Churches in southern California were built in 50s and 60s and are in need of maintenance. In addition, the campaign will support vocations, provide expanded Chaplaincy services and outreach through our prison ministry, as well as strengthen faith formation at all levels.
Each parish has been given a target goal for the campaign. The goal for our parish is $720,000, of which 50% will remain at Old Mission Santa Ines. We also retain 100% of all funds we collect over our goal. Each parish has been asked to identify projects that will benefit from the Renew campaign. While our principal project is the seismic retrofit of the church, we will also use our funds to re-pave the parking lot.
We are so blessed to be the beneficiaries of our lovely and historic church with its beautiful grounds! Now, we are called to bless others through Called to Renew. Any historic structure such as the Old Mission requires intense maintenance. In addition, to preserve it for future generations, we must upgrade the Church to better withstand earthquakes, and care for the surrounding facilities. You can help us care for and upgrade our beautiful church by prayerfully considering a five-year pledge to the campaign. I know this is a significant commitment, however, even a small sacrifice each month will add up to a significant donation over the course of five years. I know that our Old Mission community is generous and dedicated to serving our parish and our community. Called to Renew will help us do just that. Please join me in supporting Called to Renew.

Parish Needs
Seismic Retrofitting
Our beautiful mission continues to be a very active place, not only as a gathering place for Masses, baptisms, weddings, and other parish activities but also as a place where many visitors come to learn more about the history of California. While the church was strengthened in the early 19th century, a major retrofit is needed to ensure the continued safety of the many who gather here. While we are working with the California Missions Foundation and other groups to raise funds from outside sources to retrofit the church and convento building, we need to do our part to help pay for this effort for the safety of both our parishioners and visitors as well as the preservation of this “hidden gem” of the Missions.
Parking Lot
While Seismic Retrofitting is very important, it is also equally important that we take care of on-going maintenance needs. Therefore, we will use a portion of our funds to repave the parking lot.
A Bold Plan of Renewal
We — the Catholic faithful — are the agents of renewal for Church and society. I am grateful for this opportunity to walk alongside clergy and parishioners in strengthening our parishes and ministries, the heart of our Archdiocese.
