Our community is excited to participate alongside all parishes, missions and Catholic centers in the Archdiocese to strengthen and renew our Church for the future. Please continue reading to learn how this campaign will benefit us.
It has been nearly 32 years since Archbishop Mahony made the dream of a small group of Catholic deaf people come true with their own place of worship, where they, along with their families, could offer God their prayers, hopes and lives within their own unique language and experience of life. Years of prayers and discussion and, finally, trust in the Holy Spirit led them to ask the Archbishop for this special parish. They, of course, wanted to remain in complete communion with the universal Catholic Church but knew their community and individual spiritual lives would always be compromised if they were unable to pray in their own way, with their own needs. Our Lord answered their prayers, and we thank Him every day for this precious gift of Holy Angels Church of the Deaf.
When we accepted this gift, we committed to supporting and caring for our spiritual home. Over the years, we have maintained our parish buildings but, as with any “home,” sometimes everyday care and repairs are not enough. Sometimes, we face larger, more significant challenges. Our buildings have various issues that we need to address, the most pressing issues of which are the roofs on the office and hall buildings. The cost of replacing these two roofs is approximately $32,000.
This project may seem beyond our means. However, Archbishop Jose Gomez is calling us to again trust the Holy Spirit through our support of a new funding program for Holy Angels, and all of the parishes in our Archdiocese, named Called to Renew. Knowing of your love for our Church, I believe we can make our goal if we all are involved and contribute. Please look into your hearts, trust in God’s care, and give to this worthy cause. We have so many wonderful ministries and programs — it would be a shame to have to hold up umbrellas when we meet because of rain coming through holes in the roof!
Pledged over 5 years for the Called to Renew Campaign.
Our Parish Receives
$32,500
To renew our parish and strengthen ministries.
Parish Needs
Roofing
The roofs on our hall and office buildings have now exceeded their life expectancies and repairing sections is no longer cost-efficient. Replacing the two roofs will prevent future damage to the interiors of these buildings so they can continue to serve our parish ministries and programs.
Restrooms
Any remaining funds from the campaign will be directed toward updating our restrooms. Adding another stall along with renovating the restrooms will make them more convenient for parishioners and visitors attending Mass and parish ministries.
A Bold Plan of Renewal
We — the Catholic faithful — are the agents of renewal for Church and society. I am grateful for this opportunity to walk alongside clergy and parishioners in strengthening our parishes and ministries, the heart of our Archdiocese.
